Guidance on applying
It is essential that you complete the application form as fully, carefully and accurately as possible; if you do not, your application will not be accepted. Unless otherwise stated, we can not accept CV’s.
The following suggestions may help you to complete your application.
• When completing the application form make sure that you have read the job description and person specification for the post. The person specification states what the post requires and what we are seeking. At an interview, it will be assumed that you have read these and the questions will be linked to them.
• The section on the form headed “Why are you interested in applying for this post?” is your main opportunity to say why we should shortlist you. You should state how you meet the criteria outlined in the person specification, where possible giving examples. Shortlisting decisions will be based on how well you meet the person specification.
• Make sure you consider not only your work experience, but any other relevant experience you may have gained, for example voluntary work or organising family activities.
• Make sure you direct your application towards the specific post and the requirements for it. If you require further space only attach up to two additional sheets of paper.
• Make a rough draft of your application first. This will enable you to check it for mistakes or repetition and will help ensure that your form is well presented and relevant.
• Make sure that you have given your full career history in date order and have not left any unexplained gaps. There is a section on the form for you to explain your activities during any employment/education gaps. Where these gaps are within the last two years, we will need the name and address of a person who can confirm your activities during the gap e.g. Benefits office.
• Check your application through before you post it and make sure that you have signed and dated it.
• Finally, please make sure we receive the form by the closing date, as late applications will not normally be considered.
Good luck!
