Check if you are eligible for Universal Credit
You may be eligible for Universal Credit if you are aged 18 to 60 years and 6 months old and are either in work or unemployed - check if you're eligible for Universal Credit.
Universal Credit is gradually being rolled out across the UK in stages. Whether you are asked to apply for Universal Credit or existing legacy benefits will depend on your circumstances and whether you live in a:
- Live Service Area - limited to specific types of households (known as gateway conditions)
- Full Service Area - almost everyone else. Click here to find out when Universal Credit Full Service will affect you.
Households with 3 or more dependent children will need to claim legacy benefits until further notice.
All remaining working age people who claim benefits and have not had a change of circumstance will be moved over to Universal Credit between July 2019 and March 2022.
You do no need to do anything until you hear from Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
