Initiatives to combat loneliness

M original

Mears, our repairs contractors hosted an afternoon tea in aid of ‘Pennies from Heaven’ to fund tackling loneliness initiatives. The event was held at the Quest Day Centre and Octavia residents from nearby sheltered housing schemes and Quest residents were invited to attend.

Mears Events

Mears led the event by providing a cream tea including tea, coffee, juices and delicious scones and chocolate éclairs. Residents then enjoyed a fun (and competitive!) round of bingo and a raffle with several residents winning prizes donated by Mears including flowers, a Mears goody bag, a selection of drinks and a cake.

For many of the residents who attended, this was a perfect opportunity for them to socialise and enjoy some fun games. For one resident in particular, the event helped to improve her confidence and well-being as she had been reluctant to leave her flat due to having several falls. Another resident said there should be more events like this to help residents meet one another.

Mears raised over £600 for the charity. The event was great example of how getting people together, makes people smile.
