Help and advice with debt
Help and advice on welfare benefits and if you get into debt.
As a charitable association, we depend on you paying your rent on time to carry on providing services.
If you have problems paying your rent, we can offer you help and advice. But you must contact us as soon as possible to let us know about any problems you are facing.
Getting help with debt
Experience shows us that many tenants who get behind with their rent also have other outstanding debts.
To offer you support, we work in partnership with CHAS to provide a Debt Advice Project, including advice on Welfare and Benefits. The project offers free, independent and confidential advice.
To access the Welfare Benefit and Debt Advice Project, call your income officer on 020 8354 5500 or make an appointment at your local office.
Your income officer can offer advice about managing your debt or will refer you to a specialist debt adviser at the project, who will go through the whole problem with you in person.
Circumstances changed?
Changes in your circumstances, for example the number of children who are dependent on you, your work situation or the number of people living in your home are relevant changes that could affect the amount of tax credits you receive.
You should tell the Tax Credit Office about any changes to your circumstances straight away. If you do not tell them of your changes, you may not be getting all of the money tht you are entitled to or you could build up an overpayment that you may need to pay back.
You can call the Tax Credit Office on 0845 300 3900 or text phone on 0845 300 3909 if you are deaf or hearing impaired. If you woudl like any further help or advice, contact your income officer at Octavia Housing.
