Work with Keniston Press
A
work experience placement was negotiated with Keniston Press, the
company whom the association contracts for design and printing of,
amongst other things, the quarterly News Magazine. The Centre for Jobs
and Opportunities was asked to formally supervise the placement to
comply with DFEE regulations e.g. health and safety audit, insurance,
job description.
A tenant, who had graduated with a degree in Graphic
and Media Design but who had since struggled to gain either employment
or the necessary experience to supplement his portfolio was offered the
placement. The tenant is deaf and, with the CJO, we arranged the
attendance of an interpreter for the initial interview and the first
day’s placement. The tenant now has a flexible and casual working
relationship with Keniston Press whilst still developing his portfolio.
He has also been involved in the design of Octavia publications.
Another
tenant, who had also declared an interest in the placement at Keniston
Press, was taken on as a volunteer at the CJO as an opportunity to
update her office skills. After approximately 6 weeks placement she
secured full time employment with a company advertising a vacancy at
the CJO, this after being unemployed for over 3 years.
