The
project was developed as a direct response to discussions from older
residents. The initial proposal was worked up from one merely offering
exposure to IT to one with a specific focus upon training and skills
development. The Cyber Room houses three computer workstations with
full internet and e-mail capability as well as office-based and
creative software. There is also a software that enables the use of the
facility by the blind and partially sighted.
After discussion, Octavia purchased equipment essential to the project, i.e. additional lines and modems and peripherals e.g. a scanner, to allow for varied and stimulating use. The facility is now in full use and a course is being delivered by one of our tenants twice a week. All participants attend a 12-week course to familiarise them with the use of IT and then have full access to the room as and when they want.
