Projects for older people such as the Befriending project
40% of Octavia’s tenants are over 60. Whilst Octavia provides sheltered accommodation, day centres and lunch clubs, we know that many older tenants are living on their own and can often feel isolated.
Working in partnership with Age Concern Westminster, we have introduced a befriending scheme for lonely older tenants.
Age Concern have been running befriending schemes for many years, with the aim of providing much-needed company for older residents who may feel isolated or lonely.
Our scheme is putting resident volunteers in touch with some of our elderly residents, os that they can offer companionship and support for up to an hour a week. Volunteers stay for a cup of tea and a chat or go out for a walk, to the shops or possibly to something more adventurous like a trip out for the evening.
