Projects aiming to help tenants who lack access to financial services to manage their money effectively
We fund two specific projects designed to promote financial inclusion for Octavia’s tenants. Our research shows that 70% of Octavia tenants are on state benefits and one third are working but in low paid jobs. Our financial inclusion projects aim to help tenants who lack access to appropriate financial products and services manage their finances effectively. We run a debt advice project and a benefits and income maximisation project.
Working with CHAS Central London, a voluntary agency specialising in benefits and money advice, we provide a dedicated debt advice service to Octavia tenants who are in rent arrears or experiencing other forms of debt.
We are able to refer tenants to a specialist money advice worker who can help tenants prioritise their debts and make sensible and affordable repayment arrangements. The project provides a service tailored to the individuals needs and tenants can be seen at our offices or in their own homes.
We have funded dedicated advice worker from the local Citizens Advice Bureau who provides a full benefits check for Octavia tenants, helps them apply for benefits to which they may be entitled or challenge any incorrect decisions that may have been made about their entitlement.
This project also provides a service tailored to the individual’s need and tenants can be seen at our offices or in their own homes.
