Overview

Our Community Development work is designed to increase the strength and effectiveness of community life.

Children on balcony

This means improving local conditions, especially for people in disadvantaged situations, enabling people to participate in public decision-making and achieve greater long-term control over their circumstances.

Our approach is designed to:

  • Enhance the quality of life for Octavia tenants and improve the communities within which they live.
  • Work with those individuals and communities that are most marginalized thereby creating social inclusion.
  • Develop long-term and sustainable initiatives valued and owned by the community, and
  • Work within key neighbourhoods where we have the majority of our stock.

We have identified 5 key themes and these are:

  • Training and Employment Initiatives
  • Young People and Children
  • Community Safety and Involvement
  • Welfare Services
  • The Elderly

Community Investment

Our aim is to link in with other agencies for the benefit of our tenants. For example, we liaise with various Sure Start programmes to ensure that our tenants' children benefit from the programme’s work for children and parents.

We also work with local authorities, community forums and neighbourhood projects such as the Church Street Neighbourhood Forum to make sure the views and concerns of Octavia tenants are taken into account.

Octavia Foundation website

We also have a Foundation website: www.octaviafoundation.org.uk.
